Wood expands and contracts with seasonally changes making many furniture designs not suitable or even possible with solid wood.  To overcome design limitations due to seasonal wood movement, veneer is used.  The finest trees  are selected to become veneer logs.  These logs typically have striking figure with little defect and can be classified as rare.  Turning these exquisite logs into veneer yields vast quantities of useable and matching veneer.  Although veneer may be perceived  as cheap or fake, it is not.  Veneer is a way to conserve a precious resource and use it in ways solid wood can't be.
